Underpinning my work is a rigorously developed governance rubric. Informed by research, global standards, and extensive practical experience, it provides the foundation for analysis and development of governance in schools. It is structured across nine dimensions and seven analytical lenses, which offers a practical way to evaluate and strengthen governance at every level.
The focus of each lens is shown below. In total, the rubric comprises 62 development components each with its own continuum from developing to advanced governance practices.
| Governance Lens | Focus | What is Examined | No. of Components |
| Structure | How the board is organised | Board structure, role clarity, committees, policies, and philosophical approach | 5 |
| Function | How the Board operates | Board functioning, including fiduciary, legal, and ethical stewardship responsibilities; risk and environmental awareness; and meetings, committees, and decision-making processes | 16 |
| Strategy | How the Board guides the future | Guiding statements and strategy, long-term direction, and short- to medium-term planning | 5 |
| Leadership | How the Board organises leadership | Head of School preparation and leadership; Board Chair leadership, including communication and trust-building | 10 |
| Behaviour | How the Board’s behaviour shapes decisions | Board membership and culture, power dynamics, influence patterns, organisational culture, and board evaluation | 14 |
| Academics | How the Board oversees education | Oversight of educational, student, and community outcomes, | 9 |
| Accountability | How the Board measures success | Evaluation of success: School, Board, and head of School | 3 |
